Dealing with career anxiety

in Job search

We live in a society where personal introductions begin with the question “What do you do?”. Career being such a central place in our lives, we are always comparing ourselves to our friends and our peers. Does this behavior introduce an anxiety in terms of career achievement? Or job envy?

Conventional wisdom says that job positions are given based on meritocracy and anyone that has “not made it” is considered unsuccessful. Then is career anxiety related to job snobbery?

Alain de Botton provides a delightful (and funny) perspective on the career malaise that afflicts most of us and purports a different view to look at one’s career.
