Post image for Media Mention: Project Management Institute magazine

The May 2010 issue of PM Network magazine carries a story around Silicon Valley’s job market for project managers and it includes quotes from CareerTiger. Article

PM Network – as you might know is published by PMI; which is the world’s leading not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession, with more than half a million members and credential holders in 185 countries.

What’s your specialty?

The theme of what we mentioned in the article is a critical need in today’s job market – to become really valuable to potential employers by having knowledge of a specific function or technology in addition to having a strong competency like project management.

In addition to being a rockstar project manager or a program manager, if you can understand the underlying project it will make you 5x times more effective as a PM.

It will enable you to not only manage, but lead.

Employers prefer leaders over managers. Any day of the week.

Adding a competency to your specialized skills

Here is another perspective – if you have specific or specialized skills in a particular area, consider taking the PMI certification exam and becoming a PMP.

It’s a great way to accelerate your career trajectory and get into a managerial position.

Have you considered becoming a PMP? How has been your experience?
